www.lasvegasmtg.com Report: Walking for Goodie Two Shoes in Las Vegas
www.lasvegasmtg.com Report: Walking for Goodie Two Shoes in Las Vegas for the first annual 1, 2.5 and 5 Mile walk raised a large amount of funds and shoes for children of Clark County. With many sponsors and co sponsors bringing shoes and cash donations from children of $20 and $35 for adults for the walk, helped this non profit foundation provide much needed shoes for children. The crowds were estimated at 500 to 750 people walking the various distances today at the TPC Golf Course in Summerlin.
All Western Mortgage the company that I work for, was one of the co-sponsors and was able to provide 107 boy and girls shoes to Goodie Two Shoes today donated from their employees. Today we heard of a story of a girl going to school wearing her uncle shoes because he worked at nights, is heart wrenching. A statistic that was told today was that there are 300,000 children in Clark County schools from kindergarten to K-12. 140,000 thousand children are receiving breakfast and lunch assistance because they meet or are below federal poverty guidelines of $24,000 for a family of four. How would a family pay for rent and utilities and food for their family and still be able to provide shoes for the children? They can't!
Goodie Two Shoes is a 501C3 non profit organization that was founded by Nikki and Tony Berti. Tony Berti was a NFL player for San Diego Chargers from 1995-1998. Nikki and Tony Berti had volunteered for an annual program that was much simpler program in San Diego and was the bases for the formation of Goodie Two Shoes.
Goodie Two Shoes was founded in 2003 and has seen significant growth in the scope of the number of children it has helped and the number of sponsors and fund raising events. In 2010 with a grant from the Engelstad Foundation Goodie Two Shoes was able to provide the first 48' mobile shoe store to go to schools and other agency's allowing the children to select the shoes and assistance from volunteers to provide the proper fit. The goal for 2010 is to provide 10,000 shoes for Clark County children.
Today I walked to help our children and our community to raise money for Goodie Two Shoes. Today I became a volunteered for Goodie Two Shoes because I have received a lot of benefits from the Las Vegas community and it is time to give back and help the future of our country, our children! Please look at this program and either donate some shoes or money or time for this worthwhile program Goodie Two Shoes!
